| String Quartet No. 1 I. Allegro con forza | String Quartet No. 1 Composed 2002–2003 Duration 9:00 The work consists of three movements, each of which presents similar motivic material. The movements were composed consecutively over a period of a year-and-a-half from the summer of 2002 to December of 2003. During this time my compositional ideas changed considerably, thus producing a work in which each movement represents a new stage in my artistic approach. The performers here are Steven Crichlow and Chrystal Smothers (violins), Jan Matthews (viola), and Nick Alvarez (cello).

| Bahrah | Bahrah for percussion quartet Composed 2003 Duration 4:21 “Bahrah” is the transliteration of the Hebrew phrase “to create.” The idea for this composition was to take certain important themes from the Creation in the Bible, turn them into musical motives and then use these motives to develop musical material. I took the transliteration of certain key words and broke them up into syllables, basing the motives on the rhythmic syllabification and the natural Hebrew inflection. The work as a whole represents the primitive forces used in the creative act. The performers here are Lee Parham, Jennifer Higgins, Sarah Koss, and Chris Riggs.
